Background on mulching
Mulching plays an essential role in plantation forestry by creating a protective layer that helps retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and prevent erosion. Mulching involves specialized machinery that clears and grinds vegetation, depositing nutrient-rich mulch on the forest floor. As the mulch decomposes, it gradually enriches the soil with essential nutrients, promotes beneficial microorganisms, and reduces the need for chemical fertilizers. This method also naturally suppresses competing weeds and brush, allowing young trees to establish strong root systems and grow more efficiently. Ultimately, by promoting soil health and conserving resources, mulching helps ensure the long-term sustainability and productivity of plantation forests. With the growth of technology, various equipment manufacturers have developed solutions that remove the operator from the cab and allow the machine to be operated remotely. Seppi has manufactured the MAX 50 le remote-controlled tool carrier, which can clear weeds, clean, and create fire belts.
What is it?
It’s a radio-controlled vehicle with a 49-horsepower 3-cylinder turbo diesel engine (T4F/STAGE V). The Tool carrier has a robust chassis and a low center of gravity. The track width can be extended up to 181 cm and can manage slopes up to 55 degrees of incline. For safety purposes, the radio-controlled MAX 50 le can be operated at a safe distance using a remote control with a display. This machine has a mulching width of 1810mm and works best with the MICROFOREST rc 125 forestry mulching head. It can mulch wood up to 15cm and has an auto-track tension system.

A more forestry-suited remote-controlled tool carrier is the MAX 75 le, also built with an optimally positioned low center of gravity to accommodate the extendable track width. It is equipped with a 75-horsepower 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine. It can handle dense scrubs, and the optimized center of gravity ensures that the MAX 75 le remains stable on difficult terrain. The tool carrier has a track width of 245 cm and can handle slopes up to 55 degrees of incline. The tool carrier has a lift system with assisted floating position (FLOAT). It is fitted with underbody protection and metal covers. The vehicle width can be hydraulically adjusted to 800 mm. Active automatic track tension ensures optimal stability and traction, supported by the track's strong profile and large contact area (HIGH GRIP). The automatic reversing fan ensures continuous operation, while the remote control with display offers a range of up to 160 m. To get the best results when working with the MAX 75 le a H5 rc 175 or MICROFOREST rc 155, a mulching head should be used.

Applications of the remotely controlled tracked mulcher
• Mulching on steep slopes
• Cultivation of difficult and hard-to-reach areas
• Clearing up forests
• Maintaining roadsides
• Maintaining power and telephone lines
