Background
Modern nurseries need to produce uniform, healthy seedlings efficiently, while reducing labour requirements and dependence on single-use plastic containers. Traditional polybags can create challenges throughout the nursery production cycle, including minimal aeration, moisture management, poor plant and root development, difficult handling and plastic waste at transplanting. What is it? 
The FiberCell growing system consists of three main components: filling machines, papers and holders. The FiberCell Paper Pot Technology is a breathable paper pot system for professional seedling production. The paper pot is used with a suitable growing substrate to create a controlled environment that supports aeration, drainage, moisture management and root development. Its breathable paper structure provides an environment in which roots can develop into a strong, dense and fibrous root system and allows roots to develop in the field with minimal obstruction. The paper pot is also lightweight and practical to handle during sowing, nursery production, transportation and transplanting. Unlike conventional plastic polybags, FiberCell paper pots can be planted directly into the field. The paper naturally breaks down over time, reducing the need for plastic containers and their subsequent removal and disposal.



How does it work?
FiberCell Paper Pot Technology works by combining the paper pot, the paper potholder, suitable growing substrate and controlled irrigation to create favourable conditions for seedling development.
1. Improved aeration and drainage
The breathable paper structure supports air exchange around the root zone, while the growing substrate facilitates effective drainage.
2. Better moisture management
When combined with appropriate irrigation and a well-designed holder, the system helps maintain suitable moisture conditions while reducing the risk of waterlogging.
3. Air pruning for stronger roots
As roots reach the edges of the paper pot, exposure to air encourages air pruning. In combination with a well-designed holder, this promotes branching and the development of dense, fibrous roots rather than allowing roots to continue growing outward.
4. Efficient transplanting
The complete seedling with a paper pot can be planted directly into the field as the paper degrades naturally over time. This simplifies transplanting and eliminates the need to remove plastic bags before planting.
